Almeida announces bid for Selectman

Ivo Almeida runs for Selectman in the Town of Acushnet

Let me begin by thanking all of you, my supporters, family and friends, for your years of encouragement, support, and passion for our shared vision. Our vision for a government fueled in its integrity, empowered by its transparency, and made effective through its commitment to bring substance and render tangible, the Will of the People, as envisioned by our founding fathers.

I consider myself both fortunate and truly blessed to be a part of this community. With blessing comes the responsibility of stewardship. Our community presently faces challenges that affect all of our lives. A reduction in state and federal funding jeopardizes our ability to meet our budget needs and threatens the stability of our livelihoods. An economy on the brink of recession poses challenges to our local businesses. Losses in state funding put at risk many local services that our friends and neighbors rely on, especially the elderly, children, and those families already suffering by a struggling economy. It is time for our community to come together and face these challenges to preserve a community rich in history, tradition, and the many cultures that make it such a special place.

I have been active in government and politics for many years. I interned at the State House in Boston during my time at Bentley College. Most recently, my experience campaigning for State Representative gave me a stronger insight concerning the challenges that our community now faces. I firmly believe, now more than ever, that our community needs responsible government. A government of integrity, made manifest in its transparency. A government that represents the unified voice of its people. A government that is proactive and pre-emptive in its policies as it addresses the issues before us. It is time for common sense government.

It is because of my steadfast belief, that I announce my candidacy for the office of Selectman in Acushnet. I sincerely thank you for your support and humbly ask that you continue to show support again at the polls on April 4th. Together we can make our vision for more effective government a reality.
